Automatic charging test for batteries with a current of 8-10A.

AUTODELA magazine MATERIALS Reviews Test of automatic charging for batteries with a current of 8-10A
The review compares ten chargers with an output current of 8-10 A. Charging curves are given for different operating modes. Models: CTEK MXS10, Optimate 7 Select TM250, Battery Service Expert PL-C010P, Roadweller RW-CRG-03, Aggressor AGR / SBC-080 Brick, Sorokin 12.98, FUBAG Micro 160/12, VIMPEL-37 , "Autoelectrica" T-1051, Bosch C7.
Car chargers are conventionally divided into professional and amateur. Professional devices are more versatile and can deliver a large charging current. Working with high currents implies the ability to select the operating mode corresponding to the battery, and also that the responsibility for the negative consequences of fast charging lies with the user.
Amateur charging does not require special knowledge of the electrochemical processes occurring in the battery. Modern chargers allow you to simply connect the device to the battery and to the network, and the charging mode is selected automatically. Classic amateur chargers are chargers with a maximum current of 4–5 A, which we tested a year ago https://www.autodela.ru/main/top/test/test_zu_4a. They allow you to charge all types of batteries with a capacity of up to 100 Ah, which is quite enough for domestic use.
This year we are testing chargers that can be roughly classified as an intermediate class between amateur and professional. They already give out quite a decent current of 8-10 A, they can work as a power source, and many more of them can charge batteries with a voltage of 24 V. the microprocessor is responsible for controlling the charging modes in them. For the price, they also occupy an intermediate niche: not as expensive as professional ones, but more expensive than amateur ones.
Unlike previous testing, where the devices were more or less homogeneous (at least in terms of an output current of 4 A), in 10 tested models in new tests, the charging current ranged from 7 to 20 A, and the maximum declared output current (20 A) was not at all is the leading characteristic. For a smoother comparison, we have divided the tested samples into three groups.
In the first group, we included devices with a charging current of 10 A: CTEK MXS10, Optimate 7 Select TM250, Battery Service Expert PL-C010P, Roadweller RW-CRG-03.
Despite the fact that they have the same output current, t Automatic charging test for batteries with a current of 8-10A.  hey work in completely different ways.
Against the background of other devices, the Roadweller RW-CRG-03 clearly stands out. Simple plastic, lack of moisture protection, cheap wires that barely reach the required section, completely give out a budget-level model in it. In work, it behaves appropriately, that is, there is no talk of any advanced charging technologies. After switching on the charger gives 10 A and then decreases it step by step. At maximum current, the fan hums mercilessly, trying to cool the insides. In general, you can get there, but without comfort. If necessary, the Roadweller RW-CRG-03 will be able to charge a 24-volt battery, albeit for a long time and with a creak. Metaphorically speaking, this memory device looks like an outspoken "Zaporozhets" among the devices of its group.
If we talk about the final voltage of the charge cycle, then in the standard mode it is 14.14 V, in the AGM mode - 14.45 V. So this charger undercharges the battery.
Continuing the automotive analogy, Battery Service Expert PL-C010P can be called a Korean middle class foreign car. Everything is in place here: a waterproof case according to the IP65 standard, high-quality plastic, beautiful LED lights. The charging curve reflects each stage of the charging process: soft start, absorption cycle, recovery mode - in general, all those modes that distinguish good charging.
The final voltages are in complete order, they correspond to the recommended and declared parameters: 14.4 V in standard mode, 14.7 V when working with AGM and 16 V in recovery mode.
The CTEK MXS10 charger in this series is more reminiscent of a luxury car: it is expensive, there are a lot of show-offs, and it works the same way as everyone else. In tests, the device showed good performance, all the stated curves and modes were confirmed. We could not see only the pulse recovery mode, but maybe we could not find the appropriate battery for it, since it turns on automatically. The final charging voltages also correspond to the declared values.
The main feature of CTEK MXS10 is a remote battery temperat
